January 2023 Board Meeting Minutes

Monday, January 23, 2023 at 6:00 p.m., the Blue Mound Memorial Library Board of Trustees met in the annex of the Library. The Blue Mound Memorial Library President, Anne Byard, called to order the Board of Trustees meeting for January, 2023.
The Board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary’s Report: President, Anne Byard verified that each Board member received and reviewed the November 28, 2022 Minutes that had been emailed. Nancy Gorden made a motion to accept the Minutes as presented. Julie Chapman seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.
Treasurer’s Report: There were no questions. Sharon Reynolds made a motion to accept the Treasurers Report. Nancy Gorden seconded the motion. The motion carried with all ‘Aye’ votes.
Librarian’s Report:
- Per Capita Grant was completed and submitted
- Coats for Kids: 4 + large bags of coats were given to the local food pantry/clothing room.
- Hite Carpet Cleaning cleaned the Annex Carpet on Thursday Dec 8th (great job).
- Sexual Harassment Prevention Training required annually has been completed by all staff.
- Old Yearbooks have been reduced to just 12 remaining. The Library has retained two of each. After some discussion, it was decided the excess will be recycled.
- The Library has been working hard to weed out superfluous books.
Library Activities:
- Book Club went out to dinner on Thursday, December 15th at Charro’s in Taylorville, and discussed Skipping Christmas by John Grisham. Eight ladies attended.
- Book Club on January 19th went to see the movie A Man Called Otto based on the book A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman.
- Santa was at the Library on Saturday, December 3rd with at least 112 children in attendance. Each child received a book from Santa but there were some toddlers who did not take a book. The Library received lots of compliments for the event.
- Charcuterie Demonstration was held on Thursday, January 12th with 19 adults and 2 children attending. The program was well received. The Library has received many inquiries from other libraries about the program since that date.
- Adult Yoga for Beginners began on Monday January 16th with 5 in attendance.
Upcoming Programs:
- Story Time will begin on Wednesday, February 1st.
- Next of Kiln will be here on Thursday, February 2nd with a variety of plate sizes, shapes and options to offer for Valentine’s Day. The prices will range from $24 to $28 depending on the selection.
- Decorating Cookies for Valentine’s Day will happen on Saturday, February 11th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
- Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, February 16th to discuss the book The Indigo Girl by Natasha Boyd.
Memorial Money ideas:
- New tables for the Annex: need to replace 4 (lowest price per table $85 from Menards)
- Paint the Annex: bid from Trimble Construction was $4000 for 2 coats (another $1000 if the baseboard needs to be replaced).
- Chair Rack for the Annex: Hanging chair style holding 80 chairs is $833.49
- Outside power outlet: $387.93
- Camera for library security
- Convert Blue Mound Leader to electronic access
Julie Chapman made a motion to purchase the vertical Chair Rack for $833.49, four tables at $85 each, and 8 felt backed table cloths. Sharon Reynolds seconded the motion. The motion carried with all ‘Aye’ votes. The damaged tables will be offered to staff and board members for $20 each.
Old Business:
- D & D Electrical has put the Library project on his schedule.
New Business:
- There are four Board members who are up for reelection: Anne Byard, Nancy Gorden, Dani Noland, and Diana Kupish.
- Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 1st: set up will be Sunday, March 26th; National Honor Society may be helping fill the eggs.
Other: Thank you cards received from Julie Jones and Monica Reynolds.

Motion to Adjourn: With no further business to discuss, Sharon Reynolds made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Nancy Gorden seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes. The meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m.
The Next Regular Board Meeting will be Monday, February 27, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.
