Monday, July 26, 2021 at 6:00p.m., the Blue Mound Memorial Library Board of Trustees met in accordance with Health Department guidelines (including wearing masks and social distancing), in the annex of the Library with not more than two board members seated at opposite ends of 8’ tables, spaced several feet apart.  The Blue Mound Memorial Library President, Anne Byard, called to order the Board of Trustees meeting for July, 2021.

The Board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Secretary’s Report:  President, Anne Byard verified that each Board member received and reviewed the June 28, 2021 Minutes that had been emailed.  Amy Brown made a motion to accept the Minutes as presented.  Julie Chapman seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s Reports were presented in writing including the Fiscal Yearend Treasurers Report as well as the most recent month ending July, 2021.  The Board took time to review and discuss the two reports.  The Library has received the tax money $45,132.56 distributed and it will be deposited tomorrow (7/27/21).  Township funds are included in the report discussed.  With no further questions, Julie Chapman made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s reports as presented.  Nancy Gorden seconded the motion.  The motions caried with all “Aye” votes.

Librarian’s Report:

  • Julie Jones asked for volunteers to contact Julie or the Library if anyone is willing and able to walk in the Blue Mound Fall Festival Parade on August 14th with a golf cart. Candy and bookmarks will be handed out to bystanders.

Library Activities:

  • Summer Reading is winding down with the Pool Party on Wednesday, July 28th from 10-noon at the Blue Mound Swim Club.  It is believed the Summer Reading Program has been very successful especially in this COVID sensitive environment.
  • Leonardo’s Music Program attracted 82 children in attendance.
  • Magic Show brought in 80 children with two performances.
  • Kona Ice attendance was down to 60 but there were conflicts with an After School Camp and the Library was invoiced under $200 for the event.

Upcoming Programs:

  • Summer Reading closing program is the Pool Party on Wednesday, July 28th from 10-noon at the Blue Mound Swim Club. With temperatures to be in the 90’s, participation is expected to be good.
  • The Library will be participating in the Blue Mound Fall Festival Parade on August 14th and Julie and Tom Jones will open the Library Annex for a couple hours following the parade to anyone interested in perusing the old yearbooks, newspapers, or Fall Festival Booklets.
  • Book Club will meet again on September 9th at 6:30 p.m. in the Library Annex. Lindsey Sheppard will be organizing the group for the coming year but is hoping participants can lead each meeting.  Dani Noland is a regular participant and she believes the group would be able to lead each meeting.
  • Storytime is being planned for the fall but the question of masks or mask mandates is concerning. Alice suggested limiting the number of toys accessible in order to minimize cleaning time.  She also warned of the effects of Lysol spray on plastic tables, dolls faces, and other toys.  COVID germs die after a few hours of being quarantined. In other words, excessive cleaning and sanitizing is superfluous.  Lunch is expected and food preparations should be in-house and limited to helpers wearing masks and gloves.

Old Business:

  • Nancy Gorden and Sharon Reynolds reviewed the Minutes from the previous Fiscal Year with no findings. They each signed a statement approving the 2020-2021 Minutes.

New Business:  None

Other:  Reminder that a quorum is essential for the August meeting since the Budget will be discussed and approved.   Anyone unable to attend should contact Anne prior to the meeting date.

Personnel:  None

Motion to Adjourn:  With no further business to discuss, Amy Brown made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Sharon Reynolds seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.  The meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.

The Next Regular Board Meeting will be Monday, August 23, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.
