June 2021 Board Meeting Minutes

Monday, June 28, 2021 at 6:00p.m., the Blue Mound Memorial Library Board of Trustees met in accordance with Health Department guidelines (including wearing masks and social distancing), in the annex of the Library with not more than two board members seated at opposite ends of 8’ tables, spaced several feet apart.  The Blue Mound Memorial Library President, Anne Byard, called to order the Board of Trustees meeting for June, 2021.

The Board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Secretary’s Report:  President, Anne Byard verified that each Board member received and reviewed the May 24, 2021 Minutes that had been emailed.  Julie Chapman made a motion to accept the Minutes as presented.  Amy Brown seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.

Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s Report was presented in writing and reviewed by the Board of Trustees.  Nancy Gorden made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented.  Julie Chapman seconded the motion.  The motions caried with all “Aye” votes.

Librarian’s Report: 

  • Julie Jones has discussed the Library’s concerns with Spencer concerning his health. He has been to the Library in June and has all the computers and printers up and running. 
  • Aaron Damery is interested in helping the Library with computer issues if needed.
  • Anyone willing and able to walk in the Fall Festival Parade with the Library’s entry needs to notify the Staff or the Librarian.
  • The Herald and Review video on the mural was sent to all the Board members; hopefully everyone received it.
  • The Village received the approval of the owner of P & G to paint the guard rail in front of the mural.
  • The carpet in the Annex was shampooed June 9th and 10th and it brightens the room.

Library Activities:

  • Summer Reading has begun.  To date 122 children have signed up.  The baseball event was successful last week with 80 kids and 40 adults. 

 

 

Upcoming Programs:

  • Summer Reading program is continuing. (Planned guests include: exotic animals, Richard Landry the Magician, Leonardo Rock ‘n Read, Wiffle ball, Kona Ice and Pool Party.)
  • Traveling Help Desk for Congressman Rodney Davis will be here on Thursday, July 1st from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to answer questions from the community

Old Business: None

New Business: Budget

  • Budget Committee met and brought their recommendations to the Board.
  • Information regarding the Budget Hearing must be in the paper for 30 days prior to the Board Meeting in which it is to be discussed. August 23rd works for everyone.  The August 23rd meeting will start with the Budget Hearing.  Alice will get it in the paper. 
  • A Tentative Budget was distributed to each Board member for review. The tax money is unchanged from the previous year; other income is down due to COVID related issues:  limit number of patrons in library at one time, quarantine books, adjusting hours and events to comply with Health Department Guidelines.    
  • Julie Jones again applied for the Per Capita Grant which is expected to be $3609.33.
  • IMRF expenditures have increased which means the fund will go negative next year. The deficit will be covered by Special Reserves. 

Sharon Reynolds made a motion to accept the Tentative Budget as presented.  Amy Brown seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all ‘Aye’ votes. 

  • In accordance with State of Illinois’s minimum wage, Library hourly employees’ wages will be bumped up to $12 per hour in January, 2022 (which translates to about $1000 more per year for wages. Nothing changes until January.

Motion to Adjourn:  With no further business to discuss, Amy Brown made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Nancy Gorden seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.  The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.

The Next Regular Board Meeting will be Monday, July 26, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.
