Monday, March 27, 2023 at 6:00 p.m., the Blue Mound Memorial Library Board of Trustees met in the annex of the Library. The Blue Mound Memorial Library President, Anne Byard, called to order the Board of Trustees meeting for March, 2023.
The Board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary’s Report: President, Anne Byard verified that each Board member received and reviewed the February 27, 2023 Minutes that had been emailed. Nancy Gorden made a motion to accept the Minutes as presented. Julie Chapman seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.
Treasurer’s Report: amount budgeted for utilities will be close. With no other questions, Sharon Reynolds made a motion to accept the Treasurers Report. Nancy Gorden seconded the motion. The motion carried with all ‘Aye’ votes.
Librarian’s Report:
- The roof lost a lot of shingles during a recent windy rainy day. Trimble Construction did a temporary patch of about a three foot square area for $100.
- Julie Castro who had the Charcuterie demonstration, sent a nice ‘Thank you’ message for the additional money the Library sent to her to match her typical fee.
- The Blue Mound Leaders have been moved from the Annex to the front of the Library. Many patrons have expressed their approval of the rearrangements near the entrance of the Library.
- Storm Door to the Annex needs to be replaced. Prices have been obtained for review.
- Prep work for painting the Annex is underway. Tentatively scheduled for April.
Library Activities:
- Nature Journaling class was held on March 2nd led by Jeannie Barnes with eight people attending.
- Book Club met on March 16th and discussed Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter with six attending.
- Easter Craft for children was held on Saturday, March 18th with 10 children participating.
- Story Time ended on March 22nd.
Upcoming Programs:
- Easter Egg Hunt will be on Saturday, April 1st at Wise Park. Helpers should be at the park by 11:00. The Hunt begins at 1:00 p.m.
- Senior Freeze Assistance will be April 18th from 1-3 p.m. at the Library. Julie will contact previous participants.
- Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, April 18th to discuss the book The Forgotten Life of Sarah Grady by Mary Lynn. The local author will be joining the discussion group.
Old Business:
- The Storm Door to the Annex is more expensive than expected. However, after looking at several alternatives, the cheaper doors are not sturdy enough for Library use. Several questions remain such as: is the handle included with the door? Is the door pre-hung? Does the price include installation?
- Roof replacement discussed with a bid of $23,000 from Trimble Construction to partially replace the Library or front portion (excluding the Annex portion reroofed in 2019). If just the damaged side is replace the cost would be roughly half of the proposal. Tabled with the possibility of a special meeting.
New Business: None
Other:
- Insurance company sent a letter to the library stating that if there is any claim involving illegal drugs, our policy will not cover it.
- GFL will provide a garbage receptacle without charge and will agree to a three year contract.
- Consolidated Telephone will not do a year to year contract but will agree to a two year contract.
- The extra copies of Dr. Pistorius books have been placed in the Blue Mound Museum.
- Coffee Nook is being considered. Julie is looking into prices.
Personnel: None
Motion to Adjourn: With no further business to discuss, Dani Noland made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Sharon Reynolds seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
