September 2022 Board Meeting Minutes

Monday, September 26, 2022 at 6:00 p.m, the Blue Mound Memorial Library Board of Truestees met in the annex of the Library.  The Blue Mond Memoiral Library President, Anne Byard, called to order the Board of Trustees meeting for September, 2022.

 

The Board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Secretary’s Report:  President, Anne Byard verified that each Board member received and reviewed the August 22, 2022 minutes that had been emailed.  Nancy Gorden made a motion to accep the Minutes as presented.  Julie Chapman seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Treasurer’s Report was presented, Julie Chapman, made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Sharon Reynolds seconded the motion.  The motion was carrie with all “Aye” votes.

 

Librarian’s Report:

  • Danaysha McMillen , Meridian student has started volunteering at the library, she began on Monday, August 29th, and will continue to volunteer on Monday’s and Tuesday’s each week, from 12-1. She does well with assigned tasks and greeting patrons.
  • Yearbook storage is becoming an issue. We currently house old yearbooks, in fire proof cabinet,  from Blue Mound High School/Meridian.  We have duplicate books for some years, after some discussion, it was agreed that we would keep no more than 2 issues of each year, excess books can be sold for $10.00.  And extra yearbooks can be stored in non fire proof cabinet.
  • A flyer of up coming events at the library was distributed to MES for hand out.
  • A discussion was had regarding additional “adult” activities at the library; no definite projects were decided on, the board did concur that no adult evening activities would be schedule for the months of June, July or August.

 

 

Library Activities:

  • Adult Yoga for Beginners with Debbie Berry went well, eight adults showed up. After yoga a discussion was had by those attending, as to what day and time future classes, if any, would be held.
  • Book Club met on September 15th, 13 people attended. They discussed The Wish by Nicholas Sparks, Jill Chelbus hosted.

 

  • Cooking 101 was held on Saturday, September 17th; 13 children attended and they enjoyed making cereal marshmallow bars.

 

Upcoming Activities:

  • Medicare questions and Answers Led by Tom Gallion will be Thursday, October 6th at 6:30 in Library Annex

 

  • Kid’s Pumpkin Craft Day will be Saturday, October 15th from 10-11 a.m at the library.

 

  • Story Time will begin Wednesday, September 28th

 

 

Old Business:

  • D&D Electric will review electrical needs in the Annex on Tuesday, September 27th at 9:30 a.m

 

New Business:

  • Ordinance No. 22-3 an ordinance for the Levy of Taxes for the Current Fiscal Year for the Blue Mound Memorial Public Library District ending June 30, 2023 was distributed. Roll call vote indicated the following members voting “Aye”:  Anne Byard, Nancy Gorden, Julie Chapman and Sharon Reynolds.  There were no descending votes; Levy was approved.

 

  • Per Capita Grant Review was discussed, each Trustee present at meeting was given a section of Serving our Public 4.0 Standards for IL Public Libraries and will present their findings at the next board meeting. Julie Jones will then submit grant.

 

  • Likes Insurance Bill was reviewed and discussed by the trustees present. It was determined that an increase in our bill, of $30.00, was due to an audit by Like’s Insurance, the additional amount was caused by additional payroll, since minimum wage has increased.

 

  • Pay Period Clarification Anne Byard wanted the pay periods clarified by Alice Reed. Alice confirmed that the payroll is due and checks need to be signed by the 15th and 30th of each month.

 

  • Adult Yoga Classes After a discussion , it was decided that a 6 week session would be held at the library during daytime hours, cost would be $40.00 per person for the 6 week session; money would be paid directly to Debbie, by the patrons,  patrons can pay in advance, or they can pay $5.00 per session.

 

  • Ceiling above Fridge The ceiling was looked at by Nancy Gorden, Julie Chapman and Sharon Reynolds. It was decided that the area is possibly being affected by water, or bugs, unclear at this time what it is.  Julie was directed to contact Jack Trimble at Trimble Construction to possibly determine the cause, and solution.

 

Motion to Adjourn:  With no further business to discuss, Nancy Gorden made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Julie Chapman seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.  The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.

 

The next regular board meeting will be Monday, October 24, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.
