March 2024 Board Meeting Minutes

Monday, March 25, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., the Blue Mound Memorial Library Board of Trustees met in the Annex of the Library.  The Blue Mound Memorial Library President, Nancy Gorden, called to order the Board of Trustees’ meeting for March, 2024.

 

The Board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Secretary’s Report: President, Nancy Gorden verified that each Board member had time to review the Minutes from February 26, 2024.  Julie Chapman made a motion to accept the Minutes as presented.    Anne Byard seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Dani Noland made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Anne Byard seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye’ votes.   

Librarian’s Report: 

  • Furnace in the annex was looked at by Rick Wolverton of Accu-Temp on February 28th. Apparently the pilot light had gone out.  He relit it and was at the Library about 15 minutes.
  • The annex is being used for Home Schooling on Mon/Wed/Fri from about 3:00 – 4:30.
  • Statements of Economic Interest were delivered to Josh Tanner- Macon County Clerk’s Office and file notices for everyone were received.
  • Hite Carpel Cleaning will be cleaning the carpet for the main area of the Library on Saturday 3/30 allowing the weekend for them to dry. Nancy will let them in and lock up when they are finished. 
  • Employees (for 17 days) have been monitoring hours and when and how many patrons arrive to determine if there is a need to reduce the hours for the Library to be open.
  • Adler Planetarium from Chicago has donated glasses to view the upcoming (April 8th) eclipse for free.

 

Library Activities:

  • Adult Book Club met on March 21st at the Library and discussed Mad Honey by Jodi Piicoult. The group was led by Paula Farmer.  Carolyn Wetzel provided refreshments.  Six members attended.
  • Identity Theft and Scam Program – discussion led by Chief Chad Lamb was on March 7th at the Library. Eleven people attended.
  • Story Time ended on Wednesday, March 13th after 8 weeks with an average attendance of 17 children per week.
  • Chair Yoga has ended. Starting with 10 attending, had diminished to 3 people on the last day which did not pay enough to cover hr time/drive/expenses. 

Upcoming Programs:

  • Etched Glass Program will be held on Thursday, April 11th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. here at the Library. Costing $25 for two glasses, people must register in advance.    
  • Book Club will be meeting on April 18th at 6:30 to discuss The Last Heir to Blackwood Library by Hester Fox. The evening will be hosted by Vickie McCain & Dorothy Durflinger. 
  • Earth Day Celebration! Melody Arnold will be here to talk to the children and make an Earth Day craft Saturday, April 20th from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m..
  • Senior Freeze Workshop – will be held here at the Library on Tuesday April 23rd from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

 

Old Business: 

  • Hites Carpet Cleaning will clean the carpet in the main area of the Library on Satruday, March 30th which will allow the weekend for the carpets to dry. Nancy Gorden will unlock the doors for them and lock up when they are finished.     
  • Review Library Policies: Going through the policy page by page, the Board critiqued each section highlighting things that have changed and provided suggestions for possible additions.  Julie Jones will make those changes on the computer and provide a corrected version of the Policies at the April Board Meeting.  

 

New Business:  

  • Decreasing Hours – The employees have been monitoring hours and patron attendance for 17 day. That report was distributed and should be reviewed by the Board in order to determine if changes in hours should be made or if there are other options to increase attendance.

 

Other:  

  • Julie Chapman suggested inviting Mary Elliot for a book signing for her book Broden’s Blankey. Broden, who is now 20 years old, suffered from cancer when he was 4 years old and Mary’s book chronicles the journey. Julie Chapman will provide contact information to Julie Jones.  

 

Personnel: Julie Jones will be taking some vacation days and will be out of town from Wednesday, March 27th thru April 2nd.  She will be taking a few more days off in May which will be pinned down at a later meeting.

 

Motion to Adjourn:  With no further business to discuss, Anne Byard made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Julie Chapman seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.  The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.

 

The Next Regular Board Meeting will be Monday, April 22, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.
