November 2023 Board Meeting Minutes

Monday, November 27, 2023 at 6:00 p.m., the Blue Mound Memorial Library Board of Trustees met in the Annex of the Library.  The Blue Mound Memorial Library President, Nancy Gorden, called to order the Board of Trustees’ meeting for November, 2023.

 

The Board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Decennial Committee: The committee met with Janice Bridgeman, community member (Alice Reed is also a community member), present.  The report was finalized at this meeting.  Amy Brown made a motion to approve the report with the additions.  Anne Byard seconded the motion and motion was approved.

Secretary’s Report: President, Nancy Gorden verified that each Board member had time to review the Minutes from October 23, 2023.  Julie Chapman made a motion to accept the Minutes as presented.    Amy Brown seconded the motion. The Board held a discussion regarding IMRF balance and details of tax dollars received. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Anne Byard made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Julie Chapman seconded the motion. Due to the Ameren bill not being received during the billing period, discussion was held indicating the utilities were less.  The motion carried with all “Aye’ votes.     

Librarian’s Report: 

Dirt in the front flower box was changed on October 25, 2023.  We are so appreciative of Tom Jones doing this.

The Library held a guessing game activity for patrons, with 20 winners finding the correct total of pumpkins in the Library.  There were 36 participating.

The Board discussed the rental of the back room and when the carpet is cleaned, as a shampooer was purchased a few years ago for this purpose.  Carolyn usually does this after the Christmas Santa Day and when Storytime is over for the year.

The dates for The Library Board Meetings were reviewed for 2024, with Julie indicating the May meeting falls on Memorial Day holiday.  Amy Brown made a motion to change the May date to Tuesday, May 28, 2024, with no other changes to the Library Meeting schedule 2024, Dani Noland seconded the motion and the motion passed.

 

Library Activities:

  • Women’s Night program ‘Surviving the Cooking Blues’ had to be rescheduled from October 12th to October 26th at 6:30 p.m. led by Cinda Stocks (Meridian Home Economics teacher). Twelve people attended and 10 people contacted the library asking for copies of the materials because they were unable to attend the rescheduled event.
  • Ladies’ Night was on Thursday, Nov. 9th with 5 people in attendance. An adorable snowman was made by altering a book.
  • Library Crawl participation has brought in 36 participants and 6 passports taken from our library.
  • Adult Book Club met November 16th and discussed West With Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge. The group was led by Jeannie Barnes, with 7 members attended, and Carolyn Wetzel brought a snack.  The majority of the group loved the book.
  • A Children’s Program was attended by 4 children, was held on Saturday, November 18th and they made a pumpkin craft.
  • Story Time has ended for the year, averaging 16 children each week.
  • Macon County for Home and Community Education (HCE) hosed a craft program here at the Library, in the afternoon of November 27th. Eight people made gnome Christmas ornaments.    

 

Upcoming Programs:

 

  • Santa and Mrs. Claus will be here Saturday, December 2nd. Board members were asked to provide cookies, and staff have volunteered to also bring some. Julie has several volunteers ready to help with crafts and refreshments.
  • Book Club will be meeting at Dippin’ Merv’s restaurant in Blue Mound on December 21st for dinner and briefly talking about the Christmas themed book they read titled Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock.
  • Faux Stain Glass Craft Program will be on Thursday, January 11th, at 6:00pm. The cost will be $25.00.

 

 

Old Business: 

There was no Old Business to be discussed.  

 

New Business:  

  • Review of Serving Our Public 4.0 Standards for Illinois Public Libraries:
    • Chapters 12 and 13 were reviewed by Julie Chapman and Amy Brown. There were no changes since 2022.

 

Other:  

The Board discussed Christmas giving for employees.  Anne Byard made a motion, with Amy Brown seconding it, as follows:

   Consultant $200  Librarian $150  Other Employees $50

 Motion carried.

As in the past, annual paperwork will be delivered to The Macon County and Christian County Courthouses by Alice Reed and Dani Noland.

 

 

Motion to Adjourn:  With no further business to discuss, Amy Brown made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Julie Chapman seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.  The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.

 

The Next Regular Board Meeting will be Monday, January 29, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.
