May 2024 Board Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., the Blue Mound Memorial Library Board of Trustees met in the Annex of the Library.  The Blue Mound Memorial Library President, Nancy Gorden, called to order the Board of Trustees’ May 2024 meeting.

 

The Board recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Secretary’s Report: President, Nancy Gorden verified that each Board member had time to review the Minutes from March 25, 2024.  Dani Noland made a motion to accept the Minutes with amendments to correct the dates and the Trustee’s votes to repair the door.  Amy Brown seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes. 

 

Tuesday, April 30th, Nancy Gorden contacted the Board via telephone with information that Travis Trimble found the needed part to repair the door for $3800 asking if Board members would approve or disapprove of moving forward with the repair at this new price.  The majority of the Board voted to approve the repair at $3800.  The repair will move forward.  Dani Noland made a motion to accept the phone meeting vote. Sharon Reynolds seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes. 

 

The door repair will be taken out of the CD-Special Reserve Fund. Anne Byard made a motion to accept the funding for the door repair. Amy Brown seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Amy Brown made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Sharon Reynolds seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye’ votes.   

Librarian’s Report: 

  • Automatic door is fixed and working well!

 

Library Activities:

  • Senior Freeze was held on April 23rd here at the library. 21 people attended.
  • Book Club met on May 16th at 6:30 to discuss Winter Study by Nevada Barr. Jeannie Barnes and Vicky McCain hosted the evening. 4 ladies attended.
  • Self Defense Program with Kara Flannery was held on May 23rd. Kara gave tips on things to be aware of and ways to protect yourself on the internet, and in person. 3 people attended.

 

Upcoming Programs:

  • A Free Medicare Education Health & Drug Plan Meeting will be held at the Library on Thursday, June 13th at 6:00 P.M.
  • Book Club will meet on June 27th at 6:30 to discuss Lunch in Paris: a love story, with recipes by Elizabeth Bard. The club will be meeting at Wise Park. This evening is the book club's annual potluck.
  • Summer Reading - Registration will be from June 10th through the 15th. Our first program will be our annual ball game and visit from the KONA Ice Truck on June 26th at 10:30 A.M. at the ball diamond behind the Blue Mound Community Center.

 

Old Business: 

  • Alice Reed will meet with Attorney Ed Flynn on Thursday, May 30 at 2:00 PM to discuss any possible adjustments necessary in the annual levy from property taxes.

 

 

New Business:

  • .02 Ordinance - Dani Noland made a motion to pass .02 Ordinance. Anne Byard seconded the motion. Roll Call Vote indicated the following Board Members voting “Aye”: Nancy Gordon, Anne Byard, Amy Brown, Julie Chapman, Dani Noland, and Sharon Reynolds.  With no dissenting votes, the motion carried.
  • Adopt Prevailing Wage – We no longer have to do this.
  • Non-Resident Fee – Amy Brown made a motion to continue using the Tax method for Non-Residents. Dani Noland seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.
  • Appoint Budget Committee – The Budget committee will consist of Amy Brown, Dani Noland, Nancy Gorden, Alice Reed, and Julie Jones. The tentative date will be Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30 PM.
  • The Blue Mound Memorial Public Library District Policy – The policy has been revised by the Board of Trustees. Anne Byard made a motion to accept the Revised Policy. Dani Noland seconded the motion. The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.

Motion to Adjourn:  With no further business to discuss, Anne Byard made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Julie Chapman seconded the motion.  The motion carried with all “Aye” votes.  The meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m.

 

The Next Regular Board Meeting will be Monday, June 24, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.
